Is there a rule in Portland, Oregon re: using BBQs at an apartment?  We have a 4-plex, and have been doing some upgrading.  Several of the tenants have BBQs sitting on their deck.  I'm wondering if there is a rule.  We don't want anyone on the second floor using a charcoal BBQ on the wood deck. The first floor has a concrete sidewalk, but the structure is wood, and the upper deck is above their concrete one.  We're inclined to tell them they can only BBQ in the parking lot or out front on the sidewalk, but I'm wondering if there is a regulation we can cite.
Thanks,
Jennifer

You could check 2 places.  The 1st would be the fire and safety code.  Call the fire marshal in your area and ask him what the law says about open fires around structures.  The 2nd would be local laws.  There may be local code concerning barbecues.

Thanks for this...I think that's a good idea.  We've never said anything, but if there's an actual law or rule about them we'll enforce it.
