Hi,
I'm moving soon to the Philippines and was concerned about getting my security deposit back. I was wondering what the California law is? Can I only have the security deposit mailed to me as a check, or can it be another form of payment? My bank isn't in the Philippines. How would I deposit the check, if it even arrives! Or is there another way I could receive the payment?

I agree.  Talk to the landlord, tell him you are moving out of country.  Ask him to give you the money on a prepaid VISA card or to deposit it directly in your new bank account.

Yes, you should consider conversing with your proprietor letting him know that you need to move out and needing to have your security deposit back. At that point, make a move out investigation together with your landowner too to report everything before taking care of back the keys to the proprietor. This device http://bit.ly/29WcZka decreases security deposit related issue.

Best luck
