When I originally rented, I put up the security deposit.   Since then, I have added a new tenant on the lease.  Things are not going well.  Question:  When the landlord refunds the security deposit, will it be to me who originally put up the security deposit or to joint tenants?  The current tenants or the original tenants? We are in Illinois. Thanks for your help!

Your question is  a little vague.  Are you the original tenant, or the current tenant, or new tenant.

Much of it depends on the lease or rental agreement.  Ours says the deposit stays with the unit until all tenants that are on the lease are out.

If it is a mess and you are wanting to move-- I suggest that you have everyone move.

I am the original tenant.  My lease is up soon.  I am wondering who the landlord will need to return the deposit to.  The lease agreement just says that he will refund the tenant.  That is all.
