I have a tenant who is a business and the Owner wants to give me a 1099 for the rent they paid me in 2006....  Can I tell them to forget it?  I thought a 1099 is for providing work and/or services...not for renting an apartment?  any thoughts?

thanks,
Leo

You should talk to an accountant and/or a tax specialist to see if it might help you.

Why would they want to give you a 1099? They can write off the rent as business expense without one.

And there's no benefit for you to take is as misc. income instead of rental income.

That's the first time I've ever heard of this. If there is something that I am inherently missing, please let me know

i think they are confused, they are not paying you as an employee, so i would tell him NO.
