My name is Amie and I'm the single, low income mother of a young child...
After being on the waiting list for section 8 for 7 years I finally came up...
But unfortunately I'm having a REALLY hard time finding a landlord who will take my housing voucher...
Does anyone know why more landlords don't take section 8? Or any suggestions as to how I can go about my housing search when every ad I read says "No Section 8"?

Many landlords, myself included, will not accept Section 8 because of bad past experiences. Also, Section 8 makes a landlord sign THEIR lease as to what is acceptable maintenance. Investors normally don't work hard to buy a property so they can sign someone else's lease and have to follow more rules just to get a tenant that may cause more trouble than they're worth.

I've seen maybe one or two Section 8 tenants that were good. They fell on hard times, got on Section 8, and then got off it 4 years later. They didn't stay on it for 25+ years like some of the other Section 8 tenants I've seen. Who knows, maybe you're one of the good ones. But my experiences guarantee that I would rather have an empty apartment than to ever have a Section 8 tenant again. The only landlords I know who accept Section 8 have housing in bad areas, but that's just the way it is. Good luck to you
