I'm writing an article about the hidden risks that landlords face. The article is a feature assignment, for my M.A. in Writing program at Johns Hopkins, but if the professor likes it, I might publish it in a newspaper or magazine.

One of the hidden risks landlords face is the difficult tenant. I'd appreciate any stories that you have! Please include your name and city with the story--otherwise I probably can't use it. (You can do so in a private message to me if that's more comfortable.)

Another risk is the financial toll of getting less in rent than you need to cover expenses. Stories on this vein are helpful too.

I look forward to hearing from you!
Thanks,
Elise

Elise, a couple suggestions for stories on these topics.  Search this and other forums for the difficult stories section and for any posts on Section 8 assistance.  There are true horror stories about these tenants and the program.  This program will never pay the going market rate for rentals.  These tenants can be good, but I have found many more bad ones than good under this program.  Many are typical difficult tenants.  You may also check under stories about rent controlled areas for issues about not being able to get fair market rents.  Read the posts on here (quite a few include their names, and you can see their city/state if you look up their profiles.)  I'm sure you could e-mail and ask permission to use those stories too.  When I have time in the next few days I'll try to PM you a few horror stories about difficult tenants.  Right now I just don't have time with family members suffering from the flu and sitting in a blizzard warning under 9 inches of snow.  (I'm getting sick of snow!)  Good luck in your project.

Thank you very much for your help!  I will definitely check out the forums you listed.  If somehow, admidst all the snow and the flu going around, you manage to PM me a few stories in the next couple of days, that would be great--my assignment's due Saturday March 15th.  If not, though--you've pointed me in the right direction and I should be able to find good material.  Thanks.

Maybe we could find the best and fit solution to these thread. But I truly appreciate that you were writing in behalf of everyone especially on the Landlord/lady to tenant issues.

Cheers,
